Data Collection and Privacy Practices
Comment Submission
When visitors leave a comment, we collect the information entered in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help detect and prevent spam.
Gravatar Integration
If you use Gravatar, an anonymized version of your email address (typically a hash) may be sent to Gravatar’s service. You can view their privacy policy here: Gravatar Privacy Policy. Once your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile picture will be displayed publicly alongside your comment.
Media Uploads
If you upload images to our site, we recommend avoiding the inclusion of any embedded location data (such as EXIF GPS). Visitors may download and extract location information from images you upload.
Cookies
- Comment Cookies: When you leave a comment, you have the option to save your name, email, and website in cookies for your convenience. This allows you to avoid re-entering these details in the future. These cookies will stay active for one year.
- Temporary Cookies: A temporary cookie will be set when you visit the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and will be removed once you close your browser.
- Login Cookies: After logging in, additional cookies will be created to remember your login details and display preferences. These login cookies will last for two days, while cookies related to screen options will last for one year. If you select the “Remember Me” option, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out will clear these cookies.
- Article Editing Cookies: If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be saved in your browser containing the post ID of the article you edited. This cookie expires after one day.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Our articles may include embedded content, such as videos, images, and external articles. When you interact with embedded content, it behaves as though you have directly visited the external site. These external websites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interactions, especially if you have an account and are logged into that site.
Data Sharing
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the email sent to you.
Data Retention
- Comment Retention: When you leave a comment, both the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This allows us to automatically approve follow-up comments without the need for moderation.
- User Profile Retention: For users who register on our site, we retain the personal information provided in their profiles. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except for your username, which cannot be changed). Website administrators can also access and modify this data.
Your Rights Regarding Your Data
If you have an account or have left comments on our site, you can request a file of all the personal data we hold about you, including any information you’ve shared. You also have the right to request the deletion of your personal data, except for data we must retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Data Processing and Spam Detection
Visitor comments may be processed through an automated spam detection service to help protect the site.
